Background

When it came time to replace my rods a few years back I decided to drag out the equipment I used over 20 years ago to build my first set of Sabre rods. While the equipment was old, the techniques for building rods had not changed all that much. The newer components and finishing materials made the finished rods look better than I remember.

After building the first 15 or so rods on the old bench, I decided it was time to get serious and put together a custom bench for building and drying. I started building for myself and friends in the beginning, but as Doc Ski says “starting (to build rods) is the easy part, quiting will take a serious support group”.

I just finished the 11th rod in my Super Seeker set called “Twisted” and the 7th rod in my graphite set. All of them are acid wrapped since I love the concept and have had great experience with acid wrapped rods in the past.

I started Nim Custom Rods because I found myself building for more and more “friends” and friends of friends. Business has been good and I look forward to the future working with my son Jason to create quality rods that are affordable.

I still have a couple of those old Sabres hanging on the wall.
