The Show is Coming

The 2009 West Coast Custom Fishing Rod Show is Saturday May 2nd at the Orange County Fair and Exposition Center in Costa Mesa. The doors open at 9 AM. Builders from all over Southern California will be there doing how - to seminars and showing off their work.Major suppliers for the rod building industry will be on hand to show everyone the latest in components and materials for the customer builder.

There is more to a custom rod than just picking out the colors. Come out and see for yourself. While a custom rod is not guaranteed to make you a better fisherman,  it will make you look good doing it.

My Reel Job

Has really gotten in the way of my rod building, but at least I have one. I have spent 8 of the last 11 weeks in the Chicago area working on a start up operation. I have a renewed appreciation for the Southern California weather. This deal of 8 degrees and 20 MPH wind is not for me.

I will be back soon to finish up my open orders and prepare for the 2nd Annual West Coast Custom Rod Builders Show coming up Saturday May 2nd.

It’s been a while

It’s been a while since I posted anything new and now that I am back from a 5 week business trip to beautiful Chicago in January and February, I can get back to building again. It was so cold I thought I would never thaw out.

I am so glad I live in southern California and only have to visit such places.  I will be posting up more pictures of rods I built during the winter months and some comments from customers as well.

Been Busy, Sorry

Sorry I have been so busy fishing and wrapping that I have neglected posting anything new on the site for a while. I have received pictures from lots of customers that I need to get up and I am working on it now.  Check back in a day or 2 and we should have some of our recent builds posted up as well as more Buddies on acid.

Added a new page “Rods for Sale”

We had some rods we built for the show and now have them taking up space at the shop (home). We added a page called Rods for Sale and posted up a few pictures along with special pricing to see if we can clear up some space.

Contact Info

I have received a couple of calls from people saying that there was no contact info on the site. After arguing with the first person for 15 minutes I decided to check and she was right. Nice to hand out cards at the show to go to our web site then not have any way to get ahold of us.

Shoot me an e-mail if you like to NimCustomRods@hotmail.com or ahern_mj@hotmail.com . Sorry for the confusion. We will get the contact page up shortly.

The “Big Show”

The first annual West Coast Custom Rod Show was, by all measures, a huge success. We met a lot of nice folks and spent the day explaining and demonstrating the advantages of spiral wrapped rods.

Mark of Acidrod.com fame asked me to assist with his seminar on spiral wraps and I was glad to jump in and add color commentary where I could while “leaning” on my 6455XXH lifting a 20 lb weight off the floor.

The overnight charter the following day was a blast too. We went out on the Pacific Star searching for YT and WSB’s. We were only able to get into calicos, but they were up to 6 lbs and a lot of fun.

We have a few rods left over from the group we built for the show and will be putting them up on the site soon for sale at special prices.

Chris Arnett (right)  was there to help with the booth. Thanks Chris !

The “Big Show” is just around the corner

We have been working hard to get all the rods we planned to build ready for the First Annual  - West Coast Custom Rod Show in Costa Mesa. We have the finishing touches going on the last few of the 40 rods we built for the show. We will have 14 8-9 foot ultra light trout rods in various colors, 2 sets of 8 foot Rainshadow rods (15, 20, 30 lb), a 4 rod set of Rainshadow 7 foot rods ( 15, 20, 25, 30 lb) as well as a few deck hand style Forecast jig sticks.

The show is Saturday May 3rd at the Orange County Fair and Exposition Center from 9 am to 5 pm. There will be representatives from most of the major component manufacturers as well as tackle shops and other builders. We look forward to seeing you there.
